Battle of Britain Brick

Own a true piece of aviation history with an original brick salvaged from refurbishments made to Building 59 at IWM Duxford, including a certificate of authenticity.

The former Operations Block was built in 1928 and is the most complete surviving example of a 1920's design for a fighter station. It ensured the RAF's survival and played a pivotal role in the Battle of Britain, one of the key events of the Second World War.

Each brick is unique and may have varying levels of concrete covering and damage from excavation, with a limited collection of 123 bricks available to purchase.

This is a fragile product and should be handled with care.

Size (approx.): 22.35cm x 10.8cm x  6.7cm

Our collections

When it comes to collection or non-collection item disposal, IWM carefully consider the best methods and adhere to museum sector guidance. Most of the items that we dispose are transferred to other organisations, but in some instances we are able to offer items for sale.

These bricks from the Operations Block were removed to facilitate increased access and make it accessible to wheelchair users. The removal of the bricks from the Grade II listed building was carried out after an evaluation by South Cambridgeshire District Council and Historic England.

We are delighted to be able to offer these as a result and allow people to own a piece of history.  IWM is a charity and every purchase helps us tell the stories of all those affected by conflict.
