Joe Cruz Training limited edition print

Men of the Rhodesian African Rifles learning to use hand grenades at their camp in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).

Over 24,000 Southern Rhodesians served in the armed forces, including about 1,500 women who worked in auxiliary roles and more than 2,000 men who enlisted in the Rhodesian African Rifles.

Adapting photographs from the IWM archive that feature in the new IWM London Second World War Galleries, contemporary visual artist Joe Cruz spotlights using his energetic and bold style  some of the experiences of people from places within the former British Empire.

Each photograph reveals a different aspect of the global scale of the war and represents the work and sacrifice of people across the world that is explored in the the new Galleries.
