With its message of paternal reassurance
Keep Calm and Carry On was intended to allay public fears in the wake of predicted German air raids at the outset of the Second World War.
In the event, air raids in Britain would not come for another ten months and the failure of similarly designed posters with the public ensured that almost no copies of this now famous poster was ever displayed, despite a print run of over a million.
