This replica square 100% silk escape map his authentic features areas from France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and some parts of Italy.
During the Second World War British airmen were given lightweight escape maps (usually silk) to use in case they had to make an emergency landing or bail out over enemy territory. It was hoped the maps would help aircrew avoid capture and make their way to neutral territory and back to Britain.
