100% cotton t-shirt printed with the famous photograph of Churchill with a Tommy gun.
This photograph was taken whilst Churchill was on a visit to the North East of England. Whilst visiting coastal defences near Hartlepool, he was given an explanation of the mechanism of the Thompson submachine gun.
The photo tells an interesting story of how it was used by both the German and British press in very different ways as propaganda. The Thompson submachine gun or ‘Tommy Gun’ was popularly associated with mobsters of Prohibition Era America and so The Nazis used this photograph and its gangster association to vilify Churchill, whilst the British saw this image as a symbol of strength in their statesman.
