Churchill Tommy Gun (Print Range)

This photograph was taken whilst Mr Churchill was on a visit to the North East of England. Whilst visiting coastal defences near Hartlepool he was given an explanation of the mechanism of the Thompson submachine gun.

The Thompson submachine gun or ‘Tommy Gun’ was popularly associated with mobsters of Prohibition Era America. The Nazis used this photograph and its gangster association to vilify Churchill.
