The North American P-51 Mustang was used in the Second World War by the US Army Air Forces and the RAF. One of the most famous mustangs was the Duxford-based Big Beautiful Doll, flown by Colonel John D. Landers, one of the USAAF's most successful Second World War flying 'aces'. Landers gave his Mustang its iconic name, which is also featured in the design of its distinctive nose art.
