In 1920, after serving in the First World War elephants carried logs from the timber plantations and did lots of other heavy lifting work. Bandoola was a huge elephant: standing nearly three metres tall. He was clever and had a mischievous sense of humour.
In 1942 when the Second World War broke out, the Japanese army invaded Burma and elephants joined a Special Forces Unit that helped build bridges and ferry supplies so the British army could fight back.
