Leather Bomber Jacket

Aviation brown horsehide leather flight jacket. Features bevelled pockets corners with scalloped flaps, sleeves with less taper at the wrist, a cotton lining, and an M-39 triple-marked Talon zipper. Includes a dustbag to store the jacket.

Bomber Jackets were first introduced to the pilots during the First World War to save their lives from the adverse climatic conditions. These became more popular during the Second World War when air warfare became more prominent. The most notable flight jackets were the Irvin jacket amongst the British and the A2 jacket amongst the Americans. The “Bronco” A-2 jacket which this one has been designed to match, found itself in all theatres of combat during the Second World War.

A good number of jackets made within the 1930s and ‘40s were made from horsehide. Horsehide is a heavy leather which provides great insulation and an excellent level of water resistance. Both of these qualities were important to pilots.
