This set of six Swazi candles is handcrafted in the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Southern Africa. Each candle features a vibrant millefiori design — an ancient technique meaning “a thousand flowers,” adapted from Venetian glasswork and reimagined in wax by skilled candlemakers.

Made using a special hard wax, the outer shell of each candle retains its intricate pattern while the inner wax burns, creating a warm, glowing effect. Swazi Candles are founding members of SWIFT (Swaziland Fair Trade), committed to fair wages, safe working conditions, gender equity, and environmental responsibility.

This gift celebrates Eswatini’s artistic heritage and complements Emergency Exits, an exhibition exploring the global impact of the Second World War on colonial rule. Though Eswatini was not a central focus of the exhibit, its story reflects the broader legacy of empire and independence across Africa.
